Anandi Bhattacharya is a child prodigy in a family filled with illustrious musicians and singers. Her father, slide guitar master Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, has been her constant guide, teaching her to hone her skills in understanding music.
She featured in the album Beyond the Ragasphere conceived by her father Pt Debashish Bhattacharya alongside the likes of John Mclaughlin, Jerry Douglas and tabla maestros Pt. Bickram Ghosh and Pt. Tanmoy Bose at the age of 15, which won the ‘ALBUM OF THE YEAR’ by WOMEX in 2014. She has sung alongside Jeff Sipe, the drummer in the stellar band of Jimmy Herring and John Mclaughlin.
At 16 she recorded for the Hollywood film Unindian and is featured in the trailer and in another song in the film itself starring Brett Lee and Tannistha Chatterjee. She recorded for Amanda Brown, the music director of the film in Sydney.
At 17, she recorded an episode at the NPR – ‘Tiny Desk Concerts’ – by the National Public Radio, USA.
She has worked in myriad ensembles including the ensemble of the grand-nephew of Django Reinhardt, in Lulo Reinhardt’s project ‘ Gypsy Meets India’.
Featured in the Songlines magazine, and with 5 star reviews from The Guardian, The BBC Music Magazine, she has been featured along side Mac Miller, Billie Eilish and many others in the London Evening Standard –Albums of the month and the PopMatters compilation of best artists of 2019. She has also topped the World Music Europe and the Transglobal World Music Charts Europe for best album, for the year 2018 with her debut ‘ Joys Abound’
She has toured the United States, Australia, England, Scotland, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Holland, Norway, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Africa, Mauritius and many more
She has won the The Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (PdSK eV) in the World Music category as a part of ‘Gypsy Meets India’ album conceived by Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya and Lulo Reinhardt (Grand nephew of Django Reinhardt).
She has been awarded the Songlines Music Award 2019 for BEST ARTIST, and nominated for the German Record Critic’s Award for World and Ethnic Music 2018, and featured with Billie Eillish and other incredible musicians in the Best Artists’ of 2018 compilation by POPMATTERS. She has also sung for the Bengali film ‘Bohomaan’, and is currently writing the score for the film “Petersburg Rising” – a PBS Production
